Truck Stops Texas Style [Infographic]
By: Phil Sneed
It is no secret the millions of truck drivers transporting goods spend long hours on the road as trucks can be considered a home away from home. Yet, this does not mean truckers have to spend all their time in cramped conditions or at less-than-ideal truck stops. There are a good amount of truck stops that every driver should make an attempt to visit while driving through Texas.
Located in Fort Worth, this stop offers 32 bar stations plus some of country music’s stars for live shows. But concerts are not the only form of live entertainment – Billy Bob’s also hosts professional bull riding. Add in a dance floor, and truckers may forget they’re taking a break from work.
Rip Griffin Travel Center
Situated in New Braunfels, truckers are afforded the luxury treatment. Upon arriving, they are chauffeured from the parking area to the center in a limousine decked out with longhorns. They can then enjoy some Texas BBQ inside a converted 1942 Farmall tractor.
Mystery Lights Viewing SRA
Truckers wanting a more relaxing break, can head to this stop 10 miles east of Marfa with a pair of binoculars and gaze up at the West Texas night sky. This stop has a dedicated observation area that allows for a perfect view.
Gray County SRA
Texas has its own Batcave in the form of the Gray County SRA. Three 57-foot high, white, concrete walls provide truckers with a rest area 65 miles east of Amarillo. The walls also double as a storm shelter if need be.
Chambers County SRA
Another area designed for pure relaxation, this rest stop features elevated walkways so truckers can enjoy the surrounding fauna and flora. Depending on the season, truckers may even bear witness to a wedding.
Rest is important for truckers and Texas is home to some of the top truck stops where truckers can step outside their vehicles for a much-needed break.
